Lessman Electric Supply Company was formed on October 5th, 1975 by Harlan (Jiggs) Lessman. Harlan wanted to bring another outlet of electrical goods and services to the Sioux city and surrounding areas. The first year business was ran out of his garage. The first building rented was 423 w 7th St. After 5 years in that location Lessman’s moved to 101 w 3rd st. (current Council Oaks building).
With business and staff growing, that stay only lasted 5 years until the current store location was purchased. With more growth and expansion in the market necessary, Harlan opened up with is now Lessman Lighting in March of 1986. In 1992 he decided to retire and name Harlan Lessman II president. Harlan II ran Lessman Electric for the next 30 years until his retirement in 2021. Current operations are now ran by Curt Lessman and Andy Westeen.
